Ford integrates iHeartRadio BlackBerry app with Sync

iHeartRadio hasn't forgotten about the 19 million smartphone users still rocking BlackBerries--the Internet radio service integrated its BlackBerry app with Ford's infotainment system to give listeners access to their favorite stations while on the go.

The new BlackBerry iHeartRadio app, available for download, seamlessly integrates features with the vehicle steering wheel controls. For hands-free control, Sync AppLink users can use voice commands, such as "Genre," "City," or "Personality," to search for a station by type of music, location of station, or host.

This is the third BlackBerry app that has been integrated with Sync, which puts the stalwart mobile platform in the lead with the most apps in Ford vehicles. Ford has already added Pandora and OpenBeak for Twitter on BlackBerry in AppLink, and says that many other app integrations are in the works.

But showing BlackBerry users some love with Sync integration has more to do with the app developer than the auto manufacturer. It's up to the app developer to create a version for BlackBerry, and then choose to integrate it with Ford AppLink (Stitcher: I'm looking at you).

2012 Ford Focus is IIHS Top Safety Pick

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named yet another Ford vehicle to their “Top Safety Pick” list. One of the first 2012 models to be named to the list is the 2012 Ford Focus. The IIHS named many Ford vehicles to their “Top Safety Pick” list this year. To earn the distinction of being chosen for the IIHS list, the vehicle must offer electronic stability control and receive the highest rating of “good” in each test performed by the IIHS: front, rear, side-impact, and rollover protection.

The 2012 Ford Focus features and advanced restraint system with innovative next-generation airbags providing better chest protection. With a curve-shaped tether system that pulls in the lower section, the new airbag creates a pocket and lessens the impact. In addition, Front-seat side-impact airbags, dual-stage front airbags, and Safety Canopy side-curtain airbags are also included.

The strong, stiff, lightweight steel of the 2012 Focus improves the cars dynamics with its minimized body weight and crash performance is greatly improved. Adding to the features that put the Focus on the IIHS list is the fact that many safety features come standard. BeltMinder front safety belt reminder, AdvanceTrac Electronic Stability Control, LATCH lower anchors and tether anchors for child safety seats, SOS Post-Crash Alert System, and tire pressure monitoring system are all standard on the new 2012 Ford Focus.
